Firewalk Studios’ 5v5 team-based first-person shooter Concord launched on August 24, 2024, for PS5 and PC, but has faced a quick and dramatic downfall. The developers have officially announced that the game will shut down on September 6, 2024, with full refunds being issued to all players who purchased the game.
Concord struggled from the start, with low player numbers plaguing its launch. According to SteamDB, the game reached a peak of just 697 players on its release day, far below expectations. Despite the shutdown announcement, the game’s active player count remains at only 45, with no signs of a last-minute surge in interest before the servers go offline.
Facing such disappointing performance, Firewalk Studios had little choice but to pull the game. Game Director Ryan Ellis responded to the news on the PlayStation Blog, acknowledging that while some elements of the game were appreciated, other aspects failed to meet expectations, leading to the decision to take Concord offline.
Full refunds will be provided to players across all platforms, including PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. On PS5, refunds will automatically be returned to the original payment method, while Steam and Epic Games Store refunds will be processed in the coming days. Industry analysts estimate that Concord sold approximately 25,000 copies across both platforms, a meager return compared to the game’s significant development costs.
